IPL 2018 might be three weeks away but the Player Retention will be held on Thursday in Mumbai at 7 PM. Prior to that, all the eight franchises have to reveal the names of the players whom they will be retaining. However, if the franchises decided not to retain any players, they would have to give a prior intimation for that as well. Star Sports had bagged the IPL broadcast rights. With regards to that, the Player Retention event be show on Star Sports HD 1 and Star Sports. The live streaming of the event will available on hotstar.com.

Apart from retaining the players, the franchises also have the option of Right To Match (RTM). As per the RTM method, the teams can retain a player by bidding for the player who has been sold in the player auction. A team has to spend the same amount in which the player is sold in the auction. As for the direct retention method, the teams can have three players to their side. This trio of players can include either three capped Indian players or two overseas players or two uncapped players. Now these players have to be retained with a price i.e. from franchise auction amount INR 80 crore.
