Delhi Daredevils (DD) were 23 for 2 in the sixth over during their VIVO IPL match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Rishabh Pant’s 48-ball 85 ensured DD to a competitive 174. It was another story that AB de Villiers thwarted Pant’s efforts with a 39-ball 90*.

RCB’s Mandeep Singh was in all praise for the young Pant and drew parallels of his strokeplay with Yuvraj Singh.

“Rishabh is amazing. When we were growing up, we used to talk about Yuvraj Singh. Yuvi-paa used to hit those big sixes more than anyone else. I think, in this generation, Rishabh is one name, who can smack sixes like him (Yuvraj) at will. He has immense ability,” Mandeep replied to a PTI query on Saturday.

Mandeep went on to say that he is lucky and blessed to be playing alongside de Villiers and called the 90* one of the best knocks played by the South African.

“What can I say about AB? AB is AB. He does something or the other. I am lucky and blessed to be playing with him and witnessed one of his best innings. That’s all I can say,” Mandeep said.

Mandeep scored a 9-ball 17* as RCB completed the win in the 18th over. The Punjab cricketer doesn’t believe that RCB are overtly reliant on Virat Kohli or de Villiers.

“When you have two world’s best batsmen in your side, it is but natural that others are taken lightly. We are not heavily dependent on them, but since they are world’s best batsmen a lot of focus is on them, which is natural,” Mandeep added.
