Sunil Narine has been synonymous to Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) success in IPL. He has 102 wicket at 21, and his economy rate of 6.35 suggests that he has been one of the toughest bowlers to score off. Surprisingly, while other KKR spinners — Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav and part-timer Nitish Rana — made merry in the Match 15 of VIVO IPL 2018 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Wednesday, Narine registered his worst bowling figures in the tournament.

KKR opened the bowling with wrist-spinners Chawla and Kuldeep. RR managed just 9 off their 3 overs before Narine was introduced. Ajinkya Rahane stoked the West Indians for 4 consecutive boundaries. His first over cost 18.

His final over was expensive as well. K Gowtham smacked him for six over deep extra cover, while Buttler slapped him past long-off for four. The over cost 14. He finished with 4-0-48-0, his worst spell in IPL.

While Narine leaked runs, Chawla gave away 18 off his 4 overs claiming the wicket of Ben Stokes. Kuldeep, too, gave away only 23 in 4 overs and got a wicket. Rana registered figures of 2-0-11-2. KKR restricted RR to 160. Narine, however, made amends with the bat. He got KKR off to a good start, scoring a 25-ball 35, sharing a 69-run stand with Robin Uthappa.
