Mumbai Indians (MI) climbed to fifth spot on the points table after defeating Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the match 34 of Vivo IPL 2018. MI chased down 175 with an over to spare with 4 wickets in hand. Suryakumar Yadav, the most consistent batsman for MI this season, was named Player of the Match. His 57, off 42 balls, was his third half-century of the ongoing edition of the tournament. With 340 runs, he is currently fourth on the race for the Orange Cap.

At the end-of-match presentation ceremony, Surya elaborated on how he adapted to his new position, at the top: “I am enjoying my new role, opening the innings for Mumbai Indians. Pushing it really hard every game, trying to give good starts so that it helps the team to set good totals. Also while chasing, we need to begin well to ease the pressure off the others in the middle order. ”

He also mentioned the importance of not overcomplicating things: ”I am not thinking too much, trying to keep it simple. Trying to play my natural game opening the innings, not trying too many things. Feeling really good and trying to improve my game as time goes by. Would like to finish games off too.”
