Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered their first win in the Vivo IPL 2018 against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Punjab got off to a flyer scoring more than 10 runs an over till the fourth over. It was Umesh Yadav who troubled the batsmen with his extra pace. He picked up three wickets that of Mayank Agarwal, Aaron Finch and Yuvraj Singh and reduced the score to 36 for 3.

In the post match presentation Umesh spoke about how he is focusing on the basics and not trying anything fancy.

“I was backing myself and my strengths, bowling quick at the stumps. Whatever you want, you do it is what Kohli and the coach tells. They want me to bowl with pace and attack the stumps, and not worry about the variations.”

He later added to the fact that how the Bangalore pitch was different from the one in Kolkata and how it helped him. He even mentioned that bowling out Yuvraj Singh was his most enjoyable moment.

“This pitch was slow; Kolkata pitch was quick, where the back of a length ball was kicking. If you bowl on a length here then the ball was skidding and that helped me. I think I enjoyed Yuvraj Singh’s wicket the most.”

AB de Villiers held his nerves and played a responsible knock of 57 ensuring victory for the home side. It was Washington Sundar who hit the winnings runs smashing the ball off the off side in the last over. RCB climbed to the fifth position in the IPL points table.
