India’s Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag have got the top base price of Rs 2 crore for the 2014 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. There are 10 Australian cricketers as well in the top bracket for the auction, which will be held in Bangalore on February 12.
Yuvraj was a default player in the auction as his team Pune Warriors were terminated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Sehwag was released by the Delhi Daredevils during the retentions.
There will be a total of 46 Indian players in the IPL auctions. The overall total of players will be 233 hoping to compete in the mega-event, a report in the International Business Times said.
The other big Indians with the top base price are Dinesh Karthik, Murali Vijay, Pragyan Ojha, Robin Uthappa, Yusuf Pathan, Ashish Nehra, Saurabh Tiwary and Praveen Kumar.
There will be a considerable interest in Australian players as 10 got the top base price. Ashes 2013-14 heroes Mitchell Johnson, Brad Haddin and Steven Smith are along with Brett Lee, George Bailey, Brad Hodge, Michael Hussey, Shaun Marsh, James Pattinson and Mitchell Starc.
England have Kevin Pietersen, Alex Hales and Samit Patel in the top bracket while Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor are there from New Zealand.
Jacques Kallis is the lone South African player and Sri Lanka have Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Angelo Mathews. West Indies have only Marlon Samuels in the top bracket.
No Pakistan players have been included in the list. While Michael Clarke opted out of the IPL, Kumar Sangakkara was not included. Sangakkara is likely to take a break as he has a young family.
New Zealand’s Corey Anderson has been placed in the Rs 1 crore bracket. Anderson is expected to be a big attraction for IPL teams after he smashed the fastest century in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) a few weeks ago.
Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals retained the maximum five players while Delhi retained no one.
