The Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council (GC) has confirmed that the first phase of the IPL 7 will be held in UAE from April 16 to April 30, 2014. The tournament will begin with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on Kolkata Knight Riders.

20 matches will be played in 3 stadiums: Sheikh Zayed Stadium — Abu Dhabi, Sharjah CA Stadium, Dubai International Cricket Stadium

The IPL GC had confirmed on March 12 that the first phase will be held in UAE and the tournament will end in India. However, they had not given a confirmation on the venues.

UAE had welcomed the board’s decision to host the first phase there: “The BCCI’s decision to stage the first part of the IPL 2014 season in the UAE is great news for the people of the UAE and the region. It will complete a remarkable season of cricket in the UAE, which has already seen the successful staging of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2013 and the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2014.”

The IPL venues were in a spot of bother due to the Lok Sabha elections to be held in April-May.
