Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Ranjib Biswal has said that the tournament will be held outside India due to security reasons. There has been speculation that the tournament will be held in South Africa for the second time in the history of IPL.
“The home ministry communicated to us on Thursday that the IPL cannot be hosted in the country due to security concerns in the election year,” Biswal said as reported by live mint.com.
“The decision on the final venue will happen at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) working committee meeting between Bangladesh, South Africa and United Arab Emirates (UAE),” he added.
Earlier, during IPL players’ auction that was held in Bangalore, the dates for the tournament was fixed as from ninth of April to June third.
“As far as possible we want to do the IPL in India. If not, then South Africa is the preferred venue at the moment. The second option is also there and the third option is also there,” BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel had concluded back then.
