LIVE-9

Good Morning, शुभ प्रभात! Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog session of Day Two of the Irani Cup 2016-17 being played between the newly-crowned Ranji Trophy champions Gujarat and the Rest of India (ROI) squad. In its 55th year, the tournament is set to witness a team for the first time, as Gujarat take on the ROI. The Parthiv Patel-led side, who emerged victorious in Ranji Trophy 2016-17, were found to be shaky on Day One. However, Chirag Gandhi’s maiden First-Class century kept his side ahead at stumps. Gujarat ended Day One at 300 with Gandhi playing on 136 alongside Hardik Patel at 9.

Gandhi  emerged as a saviour for Gujarat, who were in deep trouble in the first session losing three wickets, smashing 18 fours and a six enroute his unbeaten knock. Thanks to his knock, Gujarat salvaged their early wickets. Gujarat were 5 down when Gandhi entered the crease. The Ranji champions, who opted to bat first, were in trouble at lunch,  with score reading 81 for 3, after the fall of their captain Parthiv Patel for 11 and then lost Dhruv Raval soon after the break before Gandhi and  Manprit Juneja (47) got together to resurrect the floundering innings with a stand of 109.

Part-time bowler Akhil Herwadkar broke the fifth-wicket partnership at the stroke of tea by dismissing Juneja with the score reading 191 in 60.2 overs.

ROI bowlers were at their best as Siddarth Kaul and Pankaj Singh shared 7 wickets to dismantle Gujarat. They grabbed wickets at regular intervals to keep Gujarat on toes. However, Gandhi’s century turned the fortunes for Gujarat and brought them back in the game.
