Karnataka extended their lead beyond 300 to take a firm control in the Irani Trophy match against Rest of India at Bangalore on Tuesday. After the early dismissal of Stuart Binny on Day Three, Vinay Kumar and CM Gautam shared an 88-run stand to add on to the frustration of the bowlers.
Pankaj Singh was once again impressive, setting up Binny for a short ball and eventually beating him with a fuller one that knocked down his stumps. Binny’s 122 came in 122 balls including 15 boundaries and three sixes. Karnataka are heading to lunch in a commanding position. After Binny’s dismissal, Kumar went after the bowling and the well-set Gautam too hit some aggressive shots.
There was a resigned look on the face of the bowlers as they waited for something to happen. The cracks have started to appear on the pitch and the spinners, Harbhajan Singh and Amit Mishra fetched some purchase, but there isn’t enough bounce in the pitch.
