Former India cricketer Manoj Prabhakar feels that under-performing Ishant Sharma should be replaced with Varun Aaron if the team are to have any chance of winning a game in the ongoing One-Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand.
“Our bowlers are completely clueless during slog overs. Ishant Sharma shouldn’t be playing for India,” said Prabhakar who was quoted as saying by Times of India.
“Why isn’t [Varun] Aaron playing. The fact that there are two spinners in the team is surprising. Given by our performance, it will be difficult to retain the World Cup [in 2015]. If we are wasting time on Ishant Sharma, God help the Indian team,” added Prabhakar.
Prabhakar said that apart from Mohammed Shami, no other bowler has performed well for India and also added that Bhuvaneshwar Kumar was to be used in one complete spell.
“I don’t understand why Ravichandran Ashwin is playing when you have an all-rounder in Stuart Binny. I believe that all-rounders who bowl medium pace are much more effective. Suresh Raina could be used as Ashwin’s replacement,” said Prabhakar.
“Being a top team if we struggle to beat New Zealand, the management needs to introspect. It should learn how New Zealand bowlers are using slow deliveries,” concluded Prabhakar.
