Ishant Sharma stared his tour of Sri Lanka on a high note as he took five wickets in his first 21 balls during India’s practice game against Sri Lanka Board President XI at Colombo. He struck with his first ball and removed Dhananjaya de Silva. Later in the last ball of his first over, he got rid of Kaushal Silva. Upul Tharanga was his third victim. Lahiru Thirimanne and Kusal Perera were his fourth and fifth wickets respectively. He bowled a tight line with the new ball, and it worked for him. Opener de Silva was cleaned bowled, whereas K Silva and Tharanga was adjudged leg before wicket. KL Rahul took a good catch to dismiss Thirimanne and K Perera was bowled. Earlier on Day 1, India lost the toss and were asked to bat first, the openers put up a superb stand of 108 runs but the middle order flopped big time with both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma failing to get to double figures. India then found their hero in Ajinkya Rahane who scored a brilliant ton to steer India to 314 for six at stumps. At the start of Day 2, Rahane retired out for 109 and India were eventually finished with 351. In reply, SL BP XI were tottering at 10 for five.
