Playing in his final Test match, Jacques Kallis scored his 59th Test fifty as South Africa surged ahead on Day Three of the second Test match against India at Durban on Saturday. It was yet another trademark innings from Kallis, filled with exquisite drives and solid defense. It his also his 150th half-century overall.
Kallis along with AB de Villiers steadied South Africa’s ship after they lost three quick wickets early on and then went after the Indian bowlers. De Villiers was finally dismissed for 74 thus ending the 124-run partnership.
Durban has been a happy hunting ground for Kallis averaging almost 50 with four centuries and three half-centuries now.
Kallis had announced his retirement before the start of the Durban Test. While walking up to bat on Saturday after the fall of Hashim Amla’s wicket, the Indian players and umpires gave a guard of honour to the legendary all-rounder.
