Pakistan have lost two wickets, both taken by James Anderson, in their second innings against England while chasing 565 runs to draw the second Test at Old Trafford.  Pakistan are currently at 47 for 2 before heading out to the lunch break. At the start of the day’s play, England continued their dominance in the game by consolidating their lead further with both Alastair Cook and Joe Root scoring quickly. England posted 173 for one in 30 overs before declaring their innings with a big lead of 564. Pakistan have a herculean task ahead if they have to draw the match. England trail the four-Test series 0-1 as they lost the first Test at Lord’s by 75 runs and is pushing for a big win inside Day Four. Pakistan lost opener, Shan Masood and Azhar Ali, both bowing out to Anderson’s deliveries. Masood edged one to the slips as he now has been dismissed six times by Anderson in six Tests whereas Ali got out plumbed to become England’s premier bowler’s second scalp. At lunch, Mohammed Hafeez and Younis Khan were not out at the crease and will have to bat as long as possible to give any chance to their team to draw the game. Earlier, Cook and Root looked in complete control of their batting in the second innings and looked set to get another hundred but the declaration put that on hold for both of them.

A lot depends on Pakistan’s Test skipper, Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis, Hafeez and Asad Shafiq to salvage a draw for their side. This has been a completely opposite performance by the visitors after their historic Test win in the series opener at Lord’s.

Brief scores:

England 589 for 8 dec. (Joe Root 254, Alastair Cook 105, Wahab Raiz 3 for 106) & 173 for 1 dec. (Alastair Cook 76*, Joe Root 71*; Mohammad Aamer  1 for 43 ) lead Pakistan 198 & 47 for 2  (Mohammed Hafeez 24* ; James Anderson 2 for 13 ) by 518 runs.
