James Faulkner has been named by the Australian selectors as the captain of the Australia A teams that will face India A and South Africa A in Townsville in July-August 2014. Two different squads have been named by Cricket Australia for the encounters, but Faulkner is the captain of both the teams.
Speaking to Cricket Australia’s official website, Rodney Marsh, the chairman of selectors said, “James is a young man with plenty of character and possesses a great desire to win. He is still developing as an allrounder but we believe this captaincy provides him an opportunity to do that as well as develop his leadership skills.”
Faulkner has been a fixture in the one-day side as a strike-bowler and a finisher with the bat. So far, he has played only one Test, which came against England at The Oval last year. Thus, he is trying to push for a spot in the longer version of the game.
“It’s a great time of the year to be playing cricket. Everyone is looking forward to it. I know both South Africa and India have very good teams that they’ve listed to come out here to Australia, so I’m looking forward to it,” Faulkner said looking forward to the challenge.
