Joe Root has held England together after they lost Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes in quick succession on Day Two of the fifth test against India at The Oval. England now have Root and Chris Jordan in the middle. Root has batted extremely well and is trying to keep England in the same position at stumps. With a few overs to go, England are 360 for seven.
Root has batted with an attacking instinct and put India under pressure. The lead has now swelled to beyond 212 and that puts England in a very good position. He has played with supreme ease and is playing with the extra time on his hands.
India were earlier bouyed in the afternoon session when they picked up four wickets. After tea, they let Buttler and Root run away with the runs and though they have picked up two wickets, it will go down as England’s session. Unless of course, India can get a wicket before stumps.
