As England face Pakistan in Day 2 of the second Test, Joe Root play a blistering knock of double-hundred. England, after the defeat in the series opener at Lord’s, have bounced back strongly, making a great start in the first innings. Skipper Alastair Cook scored a gritty century in the very first day and built up a 185-run partnership with Root, who remained not-out at 141 at the end of Day 1 along with Chris Woakes. Root looked determined and selected his shots very carefully to reach his Test double-ton. This is the second double century of Root’s Test career. The first one came against Sri Lanka in the year 2014 as he remained unbeaten exactly at 200. However, this is Root’s longest innings in Test career as he went past his earlier highest of facing 338 deliveries. As root complete his second double ton, England reach 471 with the loss of 5 wickets.
Earlier, in the first Test, Root scored 48 runs in the first innings and built up a crucial partnership with skipper Cook. Recently, India’s Virat Kohli also scored a double ton which was the first of his Test career as in the first Test against West Indies at Antigua. Pakistan are scheduled to play four Test matches with England and currently have the advantage with a victory in the first Test.
