South Africa‘s senior batsman, JP Duminy, has been released from the squad currently involved in a four-Test series against England. With the series tied at 1-1, Duminy’s services in whites have come to a halt following a string of poor scores post his 155-run knock against Sri Lanka at home few months back. Duminy was a part of the XI who were thrashed by England in the series opener at Lord’s and failed to perform with scores of 15 and 2. The No. 4 batsman was dropped from the second Test wherein South Africa scripted a famous 340-run win to level the series. However, the team management have entrusted their faith on Aiden Markram, initially called in as cover for Faf du Plessis for the opening Test.
“He’s possibly been given a longer run because you know what he presents and how he helps out with the team away from the runs. He’s been the first to acknowledge that his performances have not stacked up – certainly not what we need from a No. 4 batsman”, stated du Plessis before dropping Duminy in the second Test. The left-hander, with an average of 32.85, has a lot of catching up to do if he wants to retain his place in the side. He has been a vital cog in South Africa’s limited-overs squad, but hasn’t tasted similar success in whites.
Currently, the four-Test series between South Africa and England is tied at 1-1. The penultimate Test will begin from July 27 at Kennington Oval, London.
