The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has announced Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga, South African all-rounder Chris Morris and New Zealand captain Kane Williamson as the marquee players slated to feature in its 2017 edition.
The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has announced Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga, South African all-rounder Chris Morris and New Zealand captain Kane Williamson as the marquee players slated to feature in its 2017 edition. The CPL announced the names on Thursday, ahead of the CPL Player Draft to take place in Barbados on Friday. The tournament is set to begin from August 1 and will end on September 9. While Williamson has been signed by Barbados Tridents, Morris has been signed by St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. They will be playing their first CPL season. Meanwhile, Malinga will feature this year for the St Lucia Stars having represented the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the previous season.
Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, who has been retained by Jamaica Tallawahs, will be looking to win the third CPL title. On the other hand, Guyana Amazon Warriors will retain their New Zealand opening batsman, Martin Guptill. The other New Zealand player, Brendon McCullum will also feature again for Trinbago Knight Riders. Chris Gayle will join the Patriots along with Morris. Gayle was previously with the Tallawahs, the title holders of CPL 2016, according to ESPNCricinfo.
The key players signed by IPL like Tymal Mills, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi are some of the big names in IPL draft. The full squad list of all six franchises will be announced on the Facebook page live on Friday from 10am (Barbados time).
