Kapil Dev, the former India captain and all-rounder, rang the bell at Lord’s to indicate the start of play on Day Four of the second Test between India and England. It was announced on Saturday that Dev would be ringing the bell, an honour that is accorded to a person only once in their lieftime. Earlier in the game Rahul Dravid rang the bell. After that Stephen Fry, a British actor, and former England cricketer Claire Taylor rang it.
Dev is considered one of the greatest cricketers produced by India. He was the leading wicket-taker in Test cricket for a few years, until he was over-taken by Courtney Walsh.
