Kevin Pietersen has said that his plan of playing just T20 cricket didn’t work. Pietersen, who is no longer allowed to play international cricket, has just completed a short stint in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
“One thing I haven’t done this year is I probably should have played a little bit more cricket than I have. If you really want to perform in T20 cricket and you are only playing one day a week, I do think you need to have your eye in. You need to be playing regularly. I found that out this year that just [playing] Friday night games doesn’t work, and it is good that I found it out because I am only 34 and I am still going to be playing for another four or five years. And I have understood that I need to play a lot more cricket in order to be successful and that is what I am going to do. And if I am playing in England next year I have to play a lot more cricket to be more successful in the shorter form of the game.”, Pietersen said in an interview with All Out Magazine.
The 34-year-old batsman may join Surrey in the coming months in order to fulfill his desire to play more cricket.
“That sounds great but we’re not taking anything for granted. A lot will depend on where KP wants to play – this summer he foreshortened his time in the CPL so he could be available for us, for example. We also need to look at what budget we have available, the rest of our squad and other issues like that. Nothing has been finalised for next season yet. Alec Stewart, our director of cricket, will probably start discussions about it towards the end of this season.”, Richard Gould, CEO of Surrey County Cricket Club was quoted as saying by The Guardian.
