Kevin Pietersen is ready for his stint in the Big Bash League (BBL) Down Under after signing a two-year deal with the Melbourne Stars. In fact, he has asked the Australian fans to boo him as it only spurs him to perform well. Pietersen is one the popular English players, but with the old rivalry in force, there sure was no love lost between him and the Australian crowd.
Pietersen was quoted by Fox Sports Australia, “To be fair, I’ve gone pretty well in Australia. So I don’t know if the cheering will do me any good, if I get any. The boos have worked well for me throughout my career in Australia, so if they want me to perform — boo me.”
Although Pietersen is focused on winning the title for Melbourne Stars, he realises that he has a larger responsibility as a senior international. He wasn’t to mentor the youngsters and help them fulfill their ambitions of playing at the highest level.
“I think off the field as well I have to try and make sure I can impact the dressing room in terms of the youngsters and some of the senior players, because I’ve been through quite a bit in my international career. I think — helping hand to try to get people over the line to fulfill ambitions and try to get them playing for Australia and playing better cricket,” Pietersen was quoted by BBL’s official website.
Pietersen’s contract is worth USD 250,000. He continues his journey as a T20 traveller, having played for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is now set to represent the St Lucia Zouks in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
