Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dreams of winning their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title came to a crushing end. KKR lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the eliminator 1 of the ninth season of IPL at Feroz Shah Kolta in Delhi by 22 runs. KKR needing 163 runs to win 140 for 8 in their quota of 20 overs. Manish Pandey was the top scorer for KKR with 36 skipper Gautam Gambhir 28 scoring the second highest runs. SRH batting first posted 162 for 8 in 20 overs with Yuvraj Singh scoring quick-fire 44 from 30 balls. KKR got off to a great start in IPL 2016 attaining 4 win from their initial 5 matches which included the likes of SRH and Mumbai Indians (MI). KKR bowled Delhi Daredevils in their first match for just 98 runs giving them the much needed boost. KKR in the second half of the tournament played well in patches winning just 4 from the remaining 9 games. KKR qualified at No.4 in the table with 16 points to their name. KKR played a do-or-die match against SRH winning it by a comfortable margin of 22 runs.
For KKR Gambhir remained their top batsmen for this edition of IPL making 501 runs in 15 matches while in bowling all-rounder Andre Russell was the pick of them picking 15 wickets in 12 matches. SRH will now take on Gujarat Lions (GL) in the second qualifier on Friday at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi to fight for a place in Sunday’s final against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Bengaluru.
