Half-centuries from Kraigg Brathwaite (92) and Kirk Edwards (91) took West Indies A to 264 for five against India A on Day One of the first unofficial Test at the GGC Ground, Mysore.
The duo put on 172 runs for the second wicket after Kieran Powell fell early. Ishwar Pandey broke the stand in the post-lunch session by bowling Edwards, before Parvez Rasool got Brathwaite caught behind soon after. Narsingh Deonarine (28) and Chadwick Walton (26 not out) then took the visitors to their final total at stumps, with Rasool picking up two for 60, while Pandey and Mohammed Shami Ahmed took a wicket each.
Earlier, West Indies A made a slow start after being put in to bat by Cheteshwar Pujara as they took lunch at 99 for one. Powell’s was the only wicket to fall in the first session. Pandey bowled four maiden overs from his 12 overs, giving away only 21 runs. It took 104 balls for Edwards to reach his fifty. Brathwaite batted carefully with Edwards, laying a foundation for the “A” team.
