Hell broke loose at Malappuram on Day Two in the match between Kerala and Himachal Pradesh in the last round of Ranji Trophy 2015-16. Day One had witnessed the loss of 20 wickets, with Kerala being bowled out for 103 and hitting back to skittle the tourists out for 163. Unfortunately, left-arm spinner Bipul Sharma bowled out Kerala for a mere 83 in the second morning, leaving the tourists a mere 24 to chase. Himachal Pradesh reached there in a mere 4.3 overs — but lost 4 wickets in the process. Every single wicket fell to Karaparambil Satish Monish, who finished with figures of 2-2-0-4.

Monish became the tenth bowler to take exactly 4 wickets in an innings without conceding a run (four others have taken 5 wickets without conceding a run). Curiously, on the same day, Ashok Dinda finished Day Two with figures of 2-2-0-4 as well, leaving Assam in tatters at 1 for 4 at Guwahati at stumps, though it is unlikely that Dinda will go through the innings without conceding a run.

Monish was, in the process, the third Indian bowler to take 4 for 0 in an innings, after Lala Amarnath and Akshar Patel. Patel’s 6-6-0-4 came this August, when he helped bowl out South Africa A for 76 at Wayanad. Amarnath’s 4 for 0 came in a Ranji Trophy match, making Monish the second to achieve this in the history of the tournament. For the sake of information, the cheapest 5-wicket haul by an Indian is 5 for 2 by Venatappa Muddiah.
