Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the InterContinental Cup match between Afghanistan and Ireland, Day Three at Greater Noida. I am Paulami Chakraborty and I will be bringing you the live updates of the day’s play. Ireland are in deep trouble going into Day Three. They are 170 for 7, still trail Afghanistan by 367 runs. Afghanistan declared at 537 for 8 in their first innings, thanks to centuries from skipper Asghar Stanikzai and Afsar Zazai. There were also useful contributions from Mohammad Shahzad (85) and Nasir Jamal (73). Left-arm spinner was the pick of the Irish bowlers, finishing with figures of 3 for 160.Andy McBrine and John Anderson chipped in with a couple of wickets apiece. However, Rashid Khan was the star for Afghanistan with figures of 5 for 54. Mohammad Nabi and Zahir Khan shared one wicket apiece between them. Afghanistan will hope to bundle Ireland as soon as possible on Day Three and look to enforce the follow-on to register a huge win. A big win could potentially take Afghanistan to the top of the table. Afghanistan currently are placed in the second position on the table, with Ireland leading the way. Afghanistan dominated Ireland in the T20 International (T20I) series before this, winning the three-match series 3-0. However, Ireland did out up a fight in the One-Day International (ODI) series after that, yet conceded the series 3-2.
Afghanistan are in complete control of this match and this match could be settled today. There is very less chance of Afghanistan winning from here, but they will look to put up a good fight for the remainder of the match.
