Good morning, Nomoskar! Hello and Welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the first One-Day International of the three-ODI series between hosts Bangladesh and Afghanistan at at the Shere Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on Sunday. This will also be the first time Afghanistan are touring the sub-continental nation. I am Paulami Chakraborty, and I will be bringing to you all the live updates from this match for this day. Bangladesh are coming off a good show in the Asia Cup 2016 at home but had a disappointing ICC World Twenty20 (WT20). Afghanistan have been on the rise since an year. They show glimpses of class and their playing grit against stronger and Test teams in the WT20.

Bangladesh will miss their bowling spearhead Mustafizur Rahman due to an injury he picked up during his county stint. However, the bowling unit, does not look to be a very weak one. The pace attack will be led by the skipper Mashrafe Mortaza, along with Shakib Al Hasan and Rubel Hossain. Mortaza is currently lacking with both runs and wickets. Bangladesh’s top-order is is very strong on paper but their batsmen needs to more consistent and that will be their key to success. Tamim Iqbal is one name who has served the team as an opener and a good one. Tamim’s performance will decide if the layout of Bangladesh’s innings will be strong or not. Another batsmen who will be the key for Bangladesh will be Sabbir Rahman. Sabbir has slowly developed from a bowler to a good batsmen. He was one of the star with the bat during the Asia Cup and WT20 campaigns.

Afghanistan now, have a strong spin bowling attack which is expected to be favoured at Dhaka. Dawlat Zadran as their leading pacer, who has been very accurate in his line. The spinning attack that consists of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi, who along with two-pacers have formed a good attack and a formula that has worked very well for them. Mohammad Shahzad has probably the strongest pair of hands in the team and can stand and deliver with a bat on any given day. Another player who has impressed one and all is Rahmat Shah. Rahmat the new find of the Afghanistan is one of the most technical batsmen in the side and has impressive finishing of shots that make him one of the innings builders.

The middle-order has Samiullah Shenwari and Najibullah Zadran who take the batting further. Nabi, apart from being the most trusted when scalping wickets is considered, can play crucial knocks down the order. The number of all-rounders present in the side also makes Afghanistan the favourites in terms of strength.
