England will face India on Day 3 of the third Test match at Southampton today (Jul 29). The first two days went extremely well for England, with extremely good batting performances from Alastair Cook, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell and Jos Buttler. The hosts scored 569 runs before declaring.

Alastair Cook and Ian Bell who were going through a bad patch before this match, finally found some rhythm. Jos Buttler too impressed on his debut as England Test wicketkeeper. He scored a quickfire 85 before falling to Ravindra Jadeja.

India’s bowling was not as impressive as it was in the second Test at Lord’s and the injury to Ishant Sharma didn’t help their cause. Pankaj Singh, who made his debut for India, went wicketless despite bowling 37 overs.

India lost the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan whose woeful run of form with the bat continues. Cheteshwar Pujara was batting along with Murali Vijay, at the end of play on Day 2. Pujara, who has been failing to convert starts will look to score big in this match while Vijay will look to continue his wonderful form with the bat.

Brief Scores:

England 569 for seven (Alastair Cook 95, Gary Ballance 156, Ian Bell 167; Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3 for 101) vs India 25 for 1 (Murali Vijay 11; James Anderson 1 for 14)
