England bowled out Sri Lanka for a score of 257 runs on the board on the first day of the second Test played at Headingley. England’s Stuart Broad achieved a hat-trick on the first day. He achieved the feat for the second time in his career. Actually, nobody realised the achievement. Even Broad who became the fourth bowler in history to take two hat-tricks in Test cricket, and even he didn’t realise it. Liam Plunkett took five and Sangakkara for Sri Lanka made a fifty. England’s Sam Robson and Alastair Cook then were able to negotiate the rest of the overs and put England in a strong position. Sri Lanka  257 (Kumar Sangakkara 79, Dinesh Chandimal 45; Liam Punkett 5 for 64, Stuart Broad 3 for 46) lead England 36 for no loss (Sam Robson 21*, Alastair Cook 14*) by 221 runs.
