Australia extended their lead to 486 runs in the second innings after Ricky Ponting scored an unbeaten in the first session of the fourth day’s play against India at the Adelaide Oval.
Australia reached 154 for five at lunch with Ponting (57) and Brad Haddin (1) at the crease.
Ponting’s good run with the bat continued as he hit five boundaries and faced 89 deliveries for his unbeaten knock of 57.
Australia made a steady start on the fourth day morning resuming their innings at 50 for three, as skipper Michael Clarke and Ponting added a further 61 runs for the third wicket to consolidate their position.
Clarke, who scored a brilliant double hundred in the first innings, was given out by umpire Kumar Dharmasena off Umesh Yadav for 37.
Michael Hussey fell to Ishant Sharma for 15, when he was trapped by the lanky pacer in front of the wickets.
