Delhi: Mar 23, 2013
Australia reached 231 for eight at the end of Day One of the fourth and final Test match against Australia at Delhi on Friday.
The Australian Nos 9 and 10 may not last long on Day Two, but that wouldn’t, or shouldn’t, take anything away from their efforts today. In the penultimate over of the day, Peter Siddle drove Bhuvneshwar Kumar through the covers with the class of a No 3 batsman.
The ensuing delivery was flicked off the pads to the fine leg fence for four more. The two boundaries did not add much to his overall strike-rate of under 40, but Siddle’s 46 off 122 balls could go on to make India pay depending on how this Test match pans out.
Brief Scores: Australia 231 for 8 (Peter Siddle 47*, Steven Smith 46; Ravichandran Ashwin 4 for 40, Ravindra Jadeja 2 for 34, Ishant Sharma 2 for 35) vs India.
