Namaste and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the second One-Day International (ODI) between India and New Zealand at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. I, Suvajit Mustafi, will bring to you all the live updates in traditional yet humorous way. I mean, I’ll try. No, really. Check our previous blog and you shall know. All the same, India lead the five-match series 1-0 and will look to continue the momentum. Meanwhile, New Zealand will look to make amends and level the series before India dent their spirit. As Ravi Shastri would say, “It promises to be a crackerjack of a contest.” FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs New Zealand, 2nd ODI at Feroz Shah Kotla
It’s festive season. Diwali is around the corner. To add to the fire (pun intended), you will be injected with a heavy dose of ODI cricket. And to make things interesting, we finally get to see MS Dhoni in action. Yes, the great Dhoni, probably the only Indian cricketer (from this generation, of course) to steal Virat Kohli’s thunder. Well, now that we are talking about Kohli, here’s a question for you: how can someone perform with such outrageous consistency? In the last match, the superman scored an unbeaten 85, taking India to a comprehensive victory.
Kohli now averages 52.12. He is only 27. He is in the peak of his health, let alone form. And what not…
It will be hot in Delhi, so much so that the temperature will hover around 34 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, it is 13 degree Celsius in New Zealand. I won’t blame the New Zealanders if they want to head back home. However, it will be different than what it was at the scenic Dharamsala, the only time the visitors felt at home (paradox, I know).
The last match saw the debutant Hardik Pandya take the centre stage and trouble the opposition with his stunning three-for. And for apparent reasons, he was awarded Man of the Match. In other news, Suresh Raina has been ruled out of the second ODI as well due to viral fever, which means Kedar Jadhav will get another nod. He came to bat when Kohli had almost taken India to the doorstep of victory. Hence, two boundaries is all he could he churn out. However, he took two crucial wickets of James Neesham and Mitchell Santner. For that matter, he was on a hat-trick. Not bad as Raina’s replacement, must say. All the same, New Zealand batsmen will look to play with caution and not throw away their wickets cheaply. From Martin Guptill to Luke Ronchi, no batsman could find their feet. Even the classicist Kane Williamson could amass 3 runs. Amidst all this, it was Tom Latham, who took New Zealand to comparatively respectable total with his unbeaten 79, becoming the first New Zealander to carry his bat. On the other hand, their bowling appeared ordinary, for Kohli was on song. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs New Zealand, 2nd ODI at Feroz Shah Kotla
