Namaste and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the third One-Day International (ODI) between India and New Zealand at Mohali’s Punjab Cricket Association Stadium. I, Aditya Sahay, will bring to you all the live updates in a much buoyant and cheerful way. New Zealand have levelled the series 1-1, after being one game to zero behind losing the first ODI at Dharamsala. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson struck a magnificent ton, while the bowlers choke-hold Virat Kohli and Co to gain a 6 runs victory at Delhi. The third match will be crucial for India as another loss would mean the hosts do not regain the No.3 spot in ODI rankings. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs New Zealand, 3rd ODI at Mohali
For India, Suresh Raina is still not available for selection as he has not yet fully recovered from viral fever. Rohit Sharma spent a considerable time at the nets in an indication that he could be a part of the playing XI. India’s bowling was exceptional in the first ODI and it was one of the biggest reasons behind India’s success in the match. The team wears a balanced look in the bowling department with both young and experienced players doing well and making their chances count.
Meanwhile for New Zealand, the form of Martin Guptill continues to remain a problem, and Ross Taylor’s embarrassing outing in India is a sign of worry. Corey Anderson, Luke Ronchi and a few in the lower order such as Mitchell Santner and Anton Devcich are yet to fire collectively.Their bowling did well in the last game, but it remains to be seen whether it was a flash in the pan or the Kiwis have finally found their right bowling order,
Winning the toss in the 2nd ODI, MS Dhoni again elected to bowl first. The match had lots of ups and downs and it was an intense tie where momentum kept on shifting from one team’s hand to another but in the end, New Zealand prevailed as winners. Kane Williamson‘s gritty eighth century single handedly took New Zealand to 242 for 9 in their quota of 50 overs.
Tom Latham and Williamson 100-run stand for the second wicket contributed mainly for the score that the visitors achieved.
Chasing a modest target of 243, India were expected to win easy but that wasn’t the case. India started the chase in a slow manner with just 35 runs coming off the first ten overs. Manish Pandey and Ajinkya Rahane added a brief partnership in the middle but Rahane got out against the run of play.
Jadhav came in at No. 6 and looked all set for a big score but got out for 41. Pandya and Yadav held their ends, ran quickly, played some fluent shots and were not ready to give it up easily.
Pandya perished for a fighting 36 with India needing 10 off 6 balls.
Southee produced a Bumrah-special to dismiss him off the first ball to win a thriller which was suddenly getting out of hand. Though India lost, it must not be forgotten the victory for New Zealand was not at all convincing.
Team India played really well to end up on the losing side.
