Stumps: KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan have given India a 49-run lead. With a day’s play remaining, the match is evenly poised. Although Indian openers showed character, let us not forget that the pitch has not worn out yet. If Lakmal goes all guns blazing, India may as well stare down the barrel.

OUT! Finally a breakthrough for Sri Lanka. Dhawan takes a chance to score his century with a six, steps out, but inside edges the Shanaka delivery instead. Nigel Llong seemed confident but Dhawan reviewed. There was an edge and Dhawan departs.

Hello and welcome to the live blog of Day Four of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. I am Paulami Chakraborty , and will bring all the interesting posts from the social media universe, along with intriguing stats.

Sri Lanka have never won a Test in India. No, there is no typo there. However, if they continue to show character, they may as well get their maiden win. After wrapping up India for 172, Lahiru Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews scored half-centuries and ended day’s play at 165 for 4. Given Sri Lanka are only 7 runs away, India have to rush through the gears and ensure the visitors do not pile on a daunting lead.

Pujara reached his 16th fifty on Day-Two morning. He could have gone on to score in three figures, but Lahiru Gamage bowled a peach of a delivery that dismantled Pujara’s defence. Angling in, the ball rattled though Pujara’s bat and pad.

Wriddhiman Saha and Ravindra gave their all to provide resistance, but Dilruwan Perera got the better of them with his off-spinners.

At the crease are captain Dinesh Chandimal and wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella.
