Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the final of the Under-19 Asia Cup between India and Sri Lanka at R Premadasa Stadium at Colombo. India qualified to the final after beating Afghanistan in the semi-final by 77 runs, thanks to an excellent ton from Himanshu Rana. Sri Lanka on the other hand registered a 26-run win (D/L) over Bangladesh in the semi-final. India go into the final without a single defeat in the group stages, while incidentally, it was India, who beat Sri Lanka in the group stage. Left-arm spinners Praveen Jayawickrama and Hareen Weerasingha picked up seven wickets between them to dismantle Bangladesh.

India started off the tournament with a resounding 235-run win over Malaysia in their opening fixture. They bundled Malaysia out for just 54, after putting up 289 on the board. Then, they registered a couple of six wicket wins, first against Nepal and then followed it up against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka on the other hand have not had a particularly smooth sailing. They have had to work hard for most of their matches. They survived an early scare to beat Nepal by a run. They then registered an eight wicket win over Malaysia in their next match. They lost their final match against India, but did just about enough to make it to the semi-finals.

India are gunning for their third straight Asia Cup title. India shared the trophy with Pakistan in 2012 and then beat the arch-rivals in the 2014 edition of the tournament. They are favourites to win this as well, but they cannot afford to underestimate Sri Lanka in their own backyard.
