Parthiv Patel-led Gujarat will face Cheteshwar Pujara’s men in the Irani Cup clash at the CCI, Brabourne, in Mumbai.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog of Day Four, of the Irani Cup 2016-17, being played between the newly-crowned Ranji Trophy champions Gujarat and Rest of India (ROI). In its 55th year, the tournament is set to witness a new winner for the first time, as Gujarat, first-timers, are well ahead in the race. They maintained the upper-hand despite ROI fighting back in the final session of Day Three. Gujarat ended Day Three at 227 for 8, taking lead of 359. ROI’s Shahbaz Nadeem was pick of the bowlers, with figures of 4 for 53 from 23 overs.

Centurion of the first innings, Chirag Gandhi, is unbeaten on 55, in which he struck seven fours. at the other end was No. 10 Hardik Patel, who is yet to open the account. Earlier, opener Priyank Panchal led the way with a patient 73, after the early fall of his partner Samit Gohil to Pankaj Singh. However, captain Parthiv Patel was dismissed for 32.

Panchal and Parthiv added 85-run stand for third wicket before departing in quick succession. Gandhi then took over the senior’s role to keep the innings floating with the lower order. First-innings top performers Pankaj Singh and Kaul got a wicket each, although the former bowled quite well.

Hyderabad speedster Mohammed Siraj, who was called up as a late replacement for the injured Shardul Thakur, picked up two wickets. In first session, Gujarat needed just 15 minutes to wrap ROI for 226, grabbing Siraj for 26 and Chintan Gaja ending with figures of 4 for 60.
