New Zealand failed to use their reviews wisely and wasted both of them before a wrong decision given by umpire provided du Plessis with a lifeline. Du Plessis, who was batting at 16 at the time of the controversial decision, later went on to score 33 and remain unbeaten at the end . New Zealand made another mistake, not taking review for Neil Wagner’s lbw appeal to dismiss JP Duminy for 7. South Africa had a shaky start on Saturday, with debutant Theunis de Bruyn getting out for a duck.

Dean Elgar followed him soon after for 5 and South Africa were reduced to 5 for 2. Hashim Amla held fort along with Duminy. Amla scored a gritty 50 that provided South Africa’s innings with stability. Though Duminy added only 20 runs, he spent time at the crease, which stopped the fall of wickets.

The two brought up 50 for South Africa. South Africa still have Quinton de Kock to come out and bat. For New Zealand, Matt Henry and Colin de Grandhomme were the two successful bowlers with a couple of wickets each.
