England will face Sri Lanka in the first One-Day International (ODI) which will be played at Colombo on Wednesday. England has arrived in Sri Lanka for a seven-match series. England will start the series as underdogs as they have been largely playing at home and sub-continent conditions are totally different. Alastair Cook will lead England into the match while Angelo Mathews will Sri Lanka in the ODI.
Sri Lanka will have lots to prove in the seven-match series as they were dominated by India in the ODI series which recently ended. They will welcome this opportunity before the World Cup to come back into the form and regroup as an unit. Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene will have huge responsibility to provide stability to the batting line-up.
The fortunes of the first ODI unfortunately are likely to be affected by a third party, the weather. With scattered thunderstorms predicted through the day, the best we can hope for is a shortened game.
Squads:
England: Alastair Cook (c), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Jos Buttler (wk), Steven Finn, Harry Gurney, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan Eion Morgan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, James Taylor, James Tredwell, Chris Woakes.
