South Africa and Sri Lanka will now take on each other on Day Four of the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), Colombo. In the first innings, Mahela Jayawardene scored 165 to take Sri Lanka to 421. In reply, Sri Lankan spinners struck and kept pegging South Africa back. But, Hashim Amla stood tall with a century and led his team to a position where they could not be given a follow on.

Now, Sri Lanka have resumed their second innings and have the chance to push for victory. They are 11 for no loss as Day Four beckons and are 150 runs ahead. They would now look to give a huge target and then use spin to bowl the opposition out. In the first innings, nine out of the ten South African wickets were taken by the spinners. That is a very positive sign for Sri Lanka as they will push to level the series.

Brief scores:

Sri Lanka 421 (Mahela Jayawardene 165, Niroshan Dickwella 63; Vernon Philander 2 for 52) & 11 for no loss (Upul Tharanga 6*, Kaushal Silva 5*) lead South Africa 282 (Faf du Plessis 36, Hashim Amla 139*, AB de Villiers 37; Dilruwan Perera 5 for 69, Rangana Herath 4 for 71) by 150 runs.
