Sri Lanka and West Indies lock horns in the second One-Day International (ODI) on Wednesday at Colombo. Sri Lanka won the nail-biting opening game by one wicket with Ajantha Mendis hitting a six on the penultimate ball and taking away the match from the visitors with one ball to spare. Earlier in the day, the Windies got bundled out for 159 with Andre Russell top-scoring with 24-ball 41 which included three sixes and boundaries each. After his dismissal, it was skipper Jason Holder who scored a quick 13-ball 36 to ensure the visitors crossed 150. According to D/L method, Sri Lanka had to chase down 163 runs from 26 overs. Sunil Narine’s three-wicket haul could not stop the Sri Lankans from taking away the match. Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 59 set the foundation of the chase and later the other batsmen made small contributions which ensured the Lankans did not fall short of runs. LIVE SCORECARD: Sri Lanka vs West Indies, 2nd ODI at Colombo

Live cricket score: Sri Lanka 225/2 | Over 36.3 | Target 225 | Batting: Lahiru Thirimanne 81(95), Dinesh Chandimal 15(20): Lahiru Thirimanne takes Sri Lanka through easily with eight wickets still in hand. Earlier, Kusal Perera was dismissed for 99 and his dismissal was partly affected due to his cramps which impeded his running between the wickets which made him go for the hundred with a big hit. OUT! Kusal Perera 99 (92) c Brathwaite b Rampaul

Live cricket score: Sri Lanka 175/1 | Over 26 | Target 225 | Batting: Kusal Perera 90(80), Lahiru Thirimanne 60(64): It’s been an incredible partnership between these two batsmen. Both have played their roles to the tea and have displayed volumes of maturity. West Indies are staring at a massive defeat. Thirimanne has gotten his fifty and Perera is into his nineties.

Live cricket score: Sri Lanka 116/1 | Over 18 | Target 225 | Batting: Kusal Perera 57(55), Lahiru Thirimanne 34(41): Sri Lanka are running away with the game at the moment. Kusal Perera has played a controlled-aggressive innings to get to his fifty off 52 balls and looks determined to bat on for three figures. Lahiru Thirimanne has also been rather steady at the crease and has scored in his thirties with a strike-rate in the mid-eighties. West Indies need a inspiring performance here.

Live cricket score: Sri Lanka 51/1 | Over 7 | Target 225 | Batting: Kusal Perera 21(18), Lahiru Thirimanne 7(8): Excellent start by these two, especially Dilshan who took on Jerome Taylor in the second over. The first delivery was short which was pulled off towards the square leg by Dilshan. That was followed by another two boundaries by him and the over ended by Perara joining the party, although it was a bad timing of the ball, a mis-field from Brathwaite gave the Lankans another four. Meanwhile, Dilshan failed to convert the good start into a match-winning knock. An inswinger from Narine smacked off Dilshan’s stumps. The dismissal took place in the fifth over, leaving Sri Lanka at 40 for 1. OUT! Tillakaratne Dilshan b Sunil Narine 17(13)

Live cricket score: West Indies 214 | Over 37.4 | Ravi Rampaul 1(1): West Indies who looked to post at least 250 on board when Samuels was in tune. However, they a couple of miss-judgments towards the end of their innings resulted into four miserable run-outs. Samuels, Jerome Taylor, Brathwaite and Sunil Narine were the batsmen who walked back to the pavilions after those run outs. And all the four wickets fell in the spam of six balls. Narine was the last of the bizarre run-out batch. Malinga’s slower delivery to the middle was played by Rampaul towards the square leg and when the former tried to go for a second run, he was few short of the ground. According to D/L method, Sri Lanka has to chase down 225 in 38 overs. OUT! Marlon Samuels run out 63(61) OUT! OUT! Jerome Taylor run out 1(2) OUT! Kraigg Brathwaite run out 17(13) OUT! Sunil Narine run out 0(1)

Live cricket score: West Indies 187/6 | Over 34 | Marlon Samuels 8(14), Carlos Brathwaite 1(3): Malinga strikes, a slower delivery from him outside off and Mohammed ends up with a think leading edge that lands safely in the hands of Chandimal at the cover, thereby ending the former’s struggle. His wicket leaves West indies at 169 for six with four wickets in hand. Same over, Malinga would have bagged a second wicket but Jayasuriya dropped a low catch and set batsman Samuels survived. five runs and a wicket from the 32nd over. Mendis is brought for the 33rd over who does a wonderful job giving just one run. However, Samuels makes up for that poor over with a six on the very first delivery of the 34th over which was again bowled by Malinga. That was followed by a dot and then two runs which brought up Samuels’s 23rd ODI fifty. He is leading from the front here, the visitors want him to stick till the end to ensure a decent total. OUT! Jason Mohammed c Dinesh Chandimal b Lasith Malinga 4(10)

Live cricket score: West Indies 153/5 | Over 29 | Marlon Samuels 25(32), Jason Mohammed 1(4): Play has resumed at Colombo after a long break due to heavy rainfall. The match has been reduced to 38 overs. Senanayake bowled the left over two deliveries of the 27th over before Malinga was handed the ball for his sixth over. Mathews has a lot of belief in him, hoping he would make use of the break and lost momentum of the West Indies side to bring out a breakthrough here. Malinga gives away just one runs and from here, the visitors have 10 overs in hand. Lakmal is the next bowler in action in the 29th over and he does the job for Sri Lanka. A good length delivery from him, while Carter tries to make use of the room gets a thick edge and the ball smacks off his stumps. OUT! Jonathan Carter b Suranga Lakmal 5(20)

LATEST UPDATE from Colombo:  The rain seems to have stopped completely now. Groundsmen going out again. The latest they can start the match.

Live cricket score: West Indies 149/4 | Over 26.4 | Marlon Samuels 8(14), Jonathan Carter 5(14):Siriwardana continued his spell, gave just six runs off his fifth over. The stand-in-skipper Samuels targetted Mendis who came in to bowl his fourth over. The spinner went wider and short and the batsman drove it towards the point. Same delivery, same result, this time Samuels drove it towards the cover for another four. He succesfully dismissed the set batsman Charles. He went down looked to sweep but was caught in front of the stumps. Review was taken but the umpire did not change his decision. Rain stops the play! OUT! Johnson Charles LBW Siriwardana 83(70)

Live cricket score: West Indies 131/3 | Over 21 | Johnson Charles 82(67), Marlon Samuels 8(14): After the dismissal of Bravo in the 16th over, the Windies’ run rate went down. Dilshan and Siriwardana came into action in the next two overs and ensured Charles did not go for the big shots. Malinga bowled his third over and gave away just two runs, bringing abck the momentum to the Lankans’ side. That was followed by anothe rgood over by Siriwardana where the visitors managed only four runs. Meanwhile, Charles is well on his way to an excellnet century, needs another 15 runs.

Live cricket score: West Indies 99/3 | Over 16 | Johnson Charles 62(46): Milinda Siriwardana struck in his second over, dismissed Bravo on the fifth delivery of the 16th over. Siriwardana continues to impress, gives a wicket just when Sri Lanka wanted a breakthrough. He went short in the middle, and Bravo picks the mid-wicket, sadly did not beat the fielder at that position. Dilsan takes an easy catch and West Indies suddenly go thre-down, OUT! Darren Bravo c Tillakaratne Dilshan 21(33)

Live cricket score: West Indies 99/2 | Over 15 | Johnson Charles 62(46), Darren Bravo 21(32): Shehan Jayasuriya was introduced in the 11th over just after bringing in Ajantha Mendis in the previous over. Meanwhile, Charles is on a roll. After taking on Mendis in the 10th over, he repeated the same treatment for Jayasuriya  as well. That was followed by more fireworks from the batsman, first a boundary towards the short fine-leg. The off-spinner once again went outside off, Charles this time smashed the ball into the stands, SIX. The 12th over was huge for the Windies, 13 runs off it. The next two overs went a bit quiet from Charles, three and five runs from the 13th and the 14th over respectively. Senanayake’s fourth over conceeded one six and West Indies bagged another seven runs from the 15th over.

Live cricket score: West Indies 61/2 | Over 10 | Johnson Charles 35(26), Darren Bravo 10(19)

Bravo slashes at Lakmal outside off, the ball takes a thick edge and races to the fence. Now Charles (sans shades) goes downtown, lofting Senanayake over extra-cover, that cleared the ropes, woah, he is not going to be bogged down! Lakmal bowls a rank long-hop, Charles pulls with panache, both sides are alternating between ordinary and quality cricket. That is also fifty for West Indies. Lakmal brings one back in, Charles is cramped for space. A very, very close call for LBW from Senanayake, Bravo survives, that would have brushed leg-stump!

Senanayake concedes a mere single. Ajantha Mendis replaces Lakmal. Bravo starts on a cautious note. Mendis strays a bit, Charles leg-glances delicately for four, he seems to have the Midas touch today! Another delicate late-cut, Malinga stops with his boot, keeps it to a single. Charles is looking ominous here!

Live cricket score: West Indies 30/2 | Over 5 | Johnson Charles 15(12), Darren Bravo 0(2)

Suranga Lakmal (5-0-15-3 in the first ODI) shares new ball with Malinga. Blackwood lofts him over point for two to register his first ODI runs. Lakmal has two slips and a gully for him. Another nice push past extra-cover for two. Charles slashes hard at Malinga, and the ball flies past second slip for four, will Mathews consider a third slip? The next ball, an attempted yorker, turns out to be a full-toss; Charles flicks him easily past square-leg for four more. I just noticed that Charles is wearing an extremely cool pair of shades while batting! A brilliantly disguised slower from Malinga, it is a full-toss, a confused Blackwood pushes it back to the bowler. Blackwood goes after the next ball and lofts it over Malinga’s head for four more! Lakmal strays down leg, Blackwood misses but gets four leg-byes!

Mathews gets Senanayake on, and he strikes first ball! Blackwood tries to hit him out out of the ground but does not time it, and Siriwardana, running to his left from mid-on, takes the skier! Darren Bravo is in. Meanwhile, Charles has taken his shades off.

OUT! Jermaine Blackwood c Milinda Siriwardana b Sachithra Senanayake 9(15)!

Live cricket score: West Indies 1/1 | Over 1 | Johnson Charles 1(1), Jermaine Blackwood 0(4)

Drama! Johnson Charles gets a single off the first ball from Lasith Malinga. Andre Fletcher tries to steer the second ball to third man (why would he do that, given that there is a slip?); the umpires waited for about five minutes to check whether Malinga had overstepped, but he had not, bye bye Fletcher! Meanwhile, debutant Jermaine Blackwood walks out. He is West Indies’ 170th ODI cap.

OUT! Andre Fletcher c Kusal Perera b Lasith Malinga 0(1)!
