England are in a strong position against Sri Lanka in the first Test that is being played at Lord’s. They ended the day’s play at 344 for 5. Joe Root was the one who amassed a century for England. He was well supported by Matt Prior and Moeen Ali, the debutant However, Moeen wasn’t able to score a fifty, as he got out to the bowling of Rangana Herath. England will look to build on that score on the second day.

There was a tinge of grass on the track. But  the track played true for most part of the match. The second day is usually the best day for batting at Lord’s. So, Root and company would  look to take the game away from Sri Lanka’s grasp. The English batsmen are going strong and a strong first session will see them reach a huge score in the first innings. Sri Lanka, after a good start looked pedestrian under the English conditions and should do very well to get back into the game. Perhaps they need their talisman Rangana Herath to deliver the goods.
