Injury-ravaged Mumbai Indians will take on the Indian Premier League champions Chennai Super Kings in their Champions League T20 opening match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Mumbai Indians have lost as many as eight players to injury. Apart from Sachin Tendulkar, who is out due to a toe injury, the Mumbai Indians will also miss the services of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ali Murtaza, Munaf Patel and Dhawal Kulkarni. The injured have been replaced by Andrew Symonds, Dilhara Fernando, R Sathish, Sarul Kanwar and Abu Nechim.
Spinner Harbhajan Singh will lead the side in Tendulkar’s absence, which will consist five overseas players allowed by the CLT20 governing council due to the injuries in the team.
Defending champions and unbeaten-at-home Chennai Super Kings are an injury-free side and looks favourite against the depleted Mumbai. The only player missing in their squad is New Zealand pacer Tim Southee.
CSK will enjoy playing at home for almost the entire tournament as they are playing all their group matches at the MA Chidambaram stadium. The semifinals and the final are also scheduled to be played here only.
Chennai’s batting line-up looks strong which features Michael Hussey, S Badrinath, Murali Vijay, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina. They have quality pacers such as Doug Bollinger and Albie Morkel and spin duo of R Ashwin and Suraj Randiv.
