India and England will face each other on Day 2 of the third Test at Southampton. England completely outclassed India on Day 1 and finished at 247 for two at the end of day’s play. Alastair Cook finally came into form, and narrowly missed a century after he was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja on 95. Gary Ballance too played a gem of an innings and scored a century. He is still unbeaten on 104.
India suffered a major blow as Ishant Sharma, the hero of Lord’s test, was ruled out with an ankle injury. He was replaced by Pankaj Singh, who failed to pick up any wickets on Day 1.
Cook’s return to form will be good for the English side, as the confidence he’ll gain from his batting will likely spill into his captaincy too. Jos Buttler, who has been called in as replacement for Matt Prior will look to impress too.
