Lodha Panel on Wednesday morning moved to Supreme Court for removal of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) top bosses including its president Anurag Thakur for non-compliance towards Lodha recommendations and not following the reforms. The panel further requested for an urgent hearing which Chief Justice of India, TS Thakur, set for October 6. Earlier, Lodha committee had already provided certain deadlines for the implementing the Lodha reforms. Lodha had asked BCCI to conduct their Annual General Meeting (AGM) by December 15 and form the new Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Committee (GC) by December 30 while the state governing bodies have been asked to conduct their elections by November 15.

However, the BCCI had already held their AGM on September 21 under the shadow of Lodha committee and flouted the guidelines in the various decisions taken, including the naming of a new selection committee. “SC will not allow BCCI to defy court orders. We will pass appropriate orders,” CJI Thakur remarked about the cricket board’s defiance, speaking to Hindustan Times. “The BCCI thinks it’s a law onto itself,” added the Chief Justice, calling on the board to respond to the committee’s report. September 8 was the deadline for the cricket body and its state associations to adopt the Memorandum of Association and amend their constitutions.

BCCI submitted their first compliance report on August 25. “Yes BCCI Secretary Ajay Shirke submitted the Compliance Report late in the evening today. They say they are preparing a list of all ineligible office bearers and will circulate them to the members shortly,” informed a PTI insider. Now with no response from BCCI, Lodha Panel have taken firm actions and moved to SC in order to achieve the desired response.
