Amul paid tribute to Sri Lankan batting legend Mahela Jayawardene by publishing a sketch featuring the former Sri Lankan captain and the quintessential Amul Girl. The text in the picture reads ‘MaHaila Jayawardene’ with the tagline reading ‘Smooth as silk, referring to his cuts, mentioned below the Amul ad.

Jayawardene retired from Tests after the second and final Test against Pakistan at his home ground of Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo, which Sri Lanka won by an innings 105 runs. He recieved wishes on his bow out from the Test format from all corners, including Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajpaksa. Amul is the latest to join the bandwagon in paying tribute to the batting veteran.

Amul’s sketch-based advertisements are renowned for their sense of humour and wit and are considered to be one of the most popular ads in the country. They are listed in the Guiness Book of World Records as the longest-running ad-campaign in the world.
