Mahela Jayawardene is set to play the final Test of his career, against Pakistan, in his home ground of Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) at Colombo.
According to a report by Associated Press, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) issued a statement saying that the Test, which was initially scheduled for the P. Sara Oval in Colombo, was relocated to the SSC following a request made by the club. The match will be held from August 14, and will be the final time Jayawardene — who has played close to 150 Test matches — will appear in a Test for Sri Lanka.
Jayawardene announced his decision to retire on July 14, 2014. In a letter to the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) chief executive Ashley de Silva, Jayawardene said, “It was not an easy decision to make given that it has been a great privilege and honour representing my country during the past 18 years, but I believe this is the right time”.
