Martin Guptill continued his red-hot form in T20Is as well and completed 2,000 runs. He went past Virat Kohli and became the second batsman after Brendon McCullum to achieve this feat. Before this match Guptill needed 4 runs to reach his personal milestone. Guptill had a forgettable 2017 in the T20Is.

He managed to score just 45 against India in November. His poor form continued against West Indies as well. However, he made it count in the final T20I smashing 38-ball 63.

Guptill, however, had a great run in the 50-over format. He scored a fifty and unbeaten century against Australia and South Africa respectively last year in 2017 Champions Trophy. He was a vital catalyst for New Zealand in the ODI series against Pakistan where he assimilated 310 runs at 77.50 that included a fifty and century to his name.

Guptill was unsold in the IPL 2018 auction. However, there are chances teams might go for him in the second round.
