Martin Guptill went past Virat Kohli to become the second highest run scorer in T20Is during the second T20I against Pakistan at Eden Park, Auckland. Kohli had surpassed Tillakaratne Dilshan to reach the second spot during the third T20I against New Zealand in November 2017.

Guptill (1,953) was 4 runs behind Kohli (1,956) before the match, he is currently batting on against Pakistan chasing 181. Guptill reached the landmark in his 70th T20I match. He is currently behind Brendon McCullum (2,140) by 182 runs.

Guptill did not have a good season against India in November last year as he could only manage to score 45 in the series. His poor form in the shortest continued against West Indies until he scored 63 off 38 balls in the final T20I. However, he has been in good nick in ODIs and recently won the man of the series against Pakistan. In the first T20I against Pakistan he got out early scoring two runs.
