England Test wicketkeeper Matt Prior overtook Alec Stewart on the list of the most successful Test wicketkeepers of all time. He is currently the eighth most successful Test wicketkeeper of all time, ahead of Stewart but 20 dismissals behind MS Dhoni.
He equalled Alec Stewart on the list of most dismissals by an Englishman when he caught Nuwan Pradeep off Liam Plunkett’s bowling in the first innings of the ongoing match, and went past him when he caught Kaushal Silva — again off Plunkett — in the second innings. He is now the second most successful English Test wicketkeeper behind only legendary English ‘keeper Alan Knott.
The five English wicketkeepers with the most dismissals in Tests are Alan Knott (269), Matt Prior (243), Alec Stewart (241), Godfrey Evans (219), and Bob Taylor (174).
