Matthew Renshaw‘s participation in the Sheffield Shield final seems dicey as he is down with injury on Day 2 of warm-up match. He was diagnosed with concussion following a collision with a teammate in Wollongong.

Renshaw did not take field on Day 3 as a precautionary measure. He was replaced by Lachlan Pfeffer, who had to fly down from Brisbane. According to reports in cricket.com.au  Renshaw will be reassessed in Brisbane before taking field for final.

“Matt will be reassessed in Brisbane to consider recovery and possible fitness to play in the Shield final,” a Queensland Cricket spokesperson said.

This is the first time Cricket Australia introduced concussion substitutes into the Sheffield Shield. However, this is not the first time Renshaw suffered concussion. It was in the Test series against Pakistan last summer when he was struck on the helmet twice in three days.

The final is scheduled to be played on March 23 at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field. The winner of the Victoria-Tasmania match will go through the final.
